In October, my solo exhibition Follow the Blooms opens at the Finnish Glass Museum in Riihimäki. The exhibition features many new works in which the forms of a garden grow into oversized glass sculptures.
The exhibition is connected to the new flourishing of Finnish art, craft and glass art, and it has been a great joy and honour to be part of this movement.

A Glimpse of Lokal’s Summer Exhibition

This summer, Lokal spreads its budding branches across a few different addresses. At First Blush, takes place in the Billnäs ironworks village at the peak of summer. Preceding it, we have a glimpse of it all at Lokal Gallery in Helsinki.
Our summer theme is a celebration of the feeling that wells up in one’s being at the sight of a new love, with the awakening of a new season, or as an artist discovers a new expression. The theme of the exhibitions is the blossoming of new life in late spring and early summer – that annual miracle. In typical Lokal fashion, the group exhibitions consist largely of worlds and work ensembles that combine the traditions of fine arts, refined craftsmanship and collectible design.

Didrichsen Art Museum Shop interior
When I was a kid my gramma, Laila Vaahtera, picked me up from school every Wednesday, and we would either go swimming at the swimming hall for war veterans in Kaskisaari or visit art exhibitions. My grandmother lived in Munkkivuori, and because of that, I must have seen every exhibition at the Didrichsen Art Museum as a child. She would often buy me a book from the museum shop about the artist or the exhibition we had just seen.I believe I became an artist precisely because my grandmother, who worked as a history teacher, took me to museums so often. My love for the Didrichsen Art Museum is deeply personal, which is why it was such a special honor to create a commissioned lamp for their newly renovated museum shop. Colors of the Sculptural Light are chosen from the architecture.
